How Royce Gracie Brought Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to the World
One of the largest icons in the Brazilian Jiu jitsu world is Royce Gracie. Royce Gracie was one of the first to showcase the devastating technique of Brazilian Jiu jitsu in his infamous matches in the first Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), dominating practitioners from other fighting styles including boxing, kickboxing, judo and tae kwon do. Often outweighed by several pounds, Royce showed how overwhelmingly effective his families style of Jiu jitsu is in a real fight.
Gracie Family Key Members
Royce is one of the youngest sons of Helio Gracie. Carlos Gracie and Helio Gracie are the founders of the family’s style of Brazilian Jiu jitsu. Carlos Gracie was the first to train in the art and helped to introduce Jiu jitsu to his brothers, which began a family legacy that stands to this day. With the children and grandchildren being taught along with extended family, such as the famous Machado brothers, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has quickly become recognized as the most effective fighting style.
